Product description
Common Oregano is a robust culinary herb cultivated primarily for the pungent, earthy flavour found in its small, dark green leaves. This bold taste, which carries spicy notes of pepper and camphor, is often more potent when the leaves are dried than when they are fresh. It is traditionally used as the backbone of Mediterranean cooking, essential for flavouring pizza sauces, Greek salads, and hearty pasta dishes where it adds a deep, savoury warmth.
This plant is typically grown as a hardy, bushy perennial that forms a low mound of foliage which can become woody at the base. It is tough and cold-tolerant, capable of surviving winter outdoors provided the ground is not waterlogged. For the best results and the most concentrated essential oils, plant it in a location with full, baking sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and thrives in poor, alkaline, or gritty soil, as it will lose flavour and struggle in damp, overly fertile conditions.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Common Oregano is one of the few herbs where the flavour improves with drying. Harvest stems just before the flower buds open for the strongest taste, hang them to dry, and crumble the leaves into jars for winter use.
How to Water
Common Oregano originates from dry, rocky hillsides and hates having wet roots. Water young plants to establish them, but once mature, allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings. It rarely needs watering in open ground unless there is a severe drought.
How to Plant
Plant Common Oregano in the sunniest spot you have, ensuring the soil is free-draining. It is ideal for edging paths or growing in rock gardens. If planting in pots, mix grit into the compost to simulate its natural environment and ensure rapid drainage.
