Product description
Compact Marjoram is a dwarf variety of oregano cultivated primarily for its neat, mound-forming habit and aromatic, savoury foliage. The small, dark green leaves possess a milder, sweeter flavour than wild oregano, which is released when the leaves are crushed or dried. It is traditionally used in Italian and Greek cuisine, perfect for sprinkling over pizzas, tomato sauces, and grilled vegetables, where it adds a classic Mediterranean taste without overpowering other ingredients.
This plant is typically grown as a hardy, low-growing edging plant or a tidy specimen for rock gardens and containers, where it rarely exceeds 15-20cm in height. It is tough and generally frost-tolerant, though it dislikes wet feet in winter. For the best results and densest growth, plant it in a location with full sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and demands poor, free-draining soil, making it an excellent choice for gravel gardens and dry stone walls.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Compact Marjoram is the perfect "edging" herb. Because it stays low and dense naturally, it rarely needs the heavy pruning that other oreganos require. Just give it a light trim after the pink flowers fade to keep it looking tidy and green for the rest of the season.
How to Water
Water young plants moderately to help them root into the surrounding soil. Once established, Compact Marjoram prefers to be kept on the dry side; only water when the soil is completely dry, as excessive moisture will cause the tight cushion of foliage to rot from the inside out.
How to Plant
Plant Compact Marjoram in a sunny, open spot with sharp drainage. It is ideal for the edges of raised beds or in terracotta pots where water can drain away freely. Avoid heavy clay soils unless you improve them significantly with grit.
