Product description

A variety of the popular Tree Mallow species, the ‘Silver Barnsley’ is quite similar to other species in terms of care and growth but differs from them with its interesting and distinctive foliage. The ovate, lobed silver-green leaves are rough with grey “hair” on the undersides of the leaves, along with loose panicles of pink-white, slightly funnelled flowers with pink-red centres in the Spring and Summer which provide eye-catching displays.

Grows best in light, well-drained soils in full sun. Plant in a sheltered position away from drying winds and provide some protection from frost, such as mulch fleece or hessian. If grown potted it may be prudent to keep under glass in Winter.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.

Instructions

Top Tip

Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming and prune back hard in early spring to encourage healthy, vigorous growth. Lavatera thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.

How to Water

Water Lavatera regularly during its first growing season to establish roots, letting the soil dry slightly between waterings. Once established, it tolerates drought well and requires minimal watering.

How to Plant

Plant Lavatera in well-drained soil in a sunny spot. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, place the plant, and backfill with soil. Space multiple plants at least 90cm apart to allow for their bushy growth. Add compost to the soil for extra nutrients.
