Product description

Commonly known as evergreen candytuft, 'Pink Ice' is a beautiful, low-growing perennial that forms a dense, spreading cushion of dark green, leathery leaves. It is highly prized for its clusters of delicate, pale pinkish-lilac flowers with darker pink centres, offering a softer colour alternative to the traditional stark white varieties.

This plant is incredibly resilient and thrives when planted in full sun with highly well-drained, slightly chalky or gritty soil. To maintain a neat, compact shape and prevent the centre from becoming woody, lightly shear the plant back by about a third immediately after the flowering period finishes.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Give the Iberis Pink Ice a light haircut with shears immediately after the spring flowers fade to prevent it from getting leggy and to encourage a tight, dense cushion of foliage.

How to Water

Iberis thrives on a "less is more" approach. Water deeply once a week during the first growing season to establish roots. Once mature, these plants are remarkably drought-tolerant; only water when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Always apply water at the soil level to avoid crown rot and ensure excellent drainage, as they cannot tolerate soggy ground. Overwatering is a quicker killer than underwatering for this Mediterranean native.

How to Plant

Settle this low-growing evergreen Iberis at the very front edge of a border, rockery, or raised bed where the soil is gritty and free-draining. It resents having its roots disturbed, so dig the hole just large enough to accommodate the nursery pot and handle the root ball as gently as possible during the transfer.
