Product description
Society Garlic is a popular perennial herb, famously prized for its ornamental qualities and culinary uses. The primary parts used for their culinary value are its flat, grass-like leaves, which provide a mild and savoury flavour that is often described as a perfect mix between chives and true garlic. However, its edibility doesn't stop there; the attractive, star-shaped lilac-purple flowers are also edible, carrying a similar garlic-like taste, and make a beautiful garnish for salads and savoury dishes.
When it comes to planting and maintenance, this is an easy-to-grow, clump-forming perennial, but it has specific preferences. It is not fussy about soil type but is fussy about its light conditions, requiring a location in full sun to thrive and flower profusely. The main requirement for it to grow well is providing it with soil that is well-drained, as it is very drought-tolerant once established. As an added benefit to the garden, its attractive purple flowers are known to be very popular with pollinators.

Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Society Garlic is the perfect social herb because, while it tastes like garlic, it does not metabolize in the body to cause bad breath the next day. The flowers are stronger tasting than the leaves, so use the blooms sparingly as a spicy garnish rather than a main ingredient.
How to Water
Water Society Garlic regularly during the flowering season to encourage more blooms, but ensure the soil drains well. In winter, keep the plant much drier to prevent the rhizomes from rotting in the cold.
How to Plant
Choose a warm, sunny location with sandy or well-drained soil for Society Garlic to encourage prolific flowering. Plant the clump at the same depth it was in the pot and protect it with mulch or move to a greenhouse during severe frosts.
