Product description
The Walking Onion is a popular perennial herb, famously nicknamed the "Egyptian Onion" or "Tree Onion" due to its unique growth habit. Nearly all parts of this plant are edible. The primary parts used for their culinary value are the hollow green leaves, which can be harvested like spring onions and provide a pungent onion flavour. However, its edibility doesn't stop there; the small, shallot-like bulbs at the base can be eaten, as can the clusters of small "topset" onions (bulbils) that form at the very top of the stalk.
When it comes to planting and maintenance, this is an extremely easy-to-grow, clump-forming perennial that is very adaptable and hardy. It is not fussy about its light conditions and will thrive in locations with either full sun or partial shade. The main requirement for it to grow well is providing it with average, well-drained soil, as it does not like to be waterlogged. Its most notable feature is its ability to "walk" across the garden, as the heavy topsets bend to the ground, root, and start new plants.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Instructions
Top Tip
The top-set bulbs of the Walking Onion have a shorter shelf life than standard onions, so store them in vinegar or oil if you cannot use them within a few weeks. You can also plant the green stems directly like a large scallion, but be aware they are much tougher than traditional spring onions.
How to Water
Water the Walking Onion regularly during dry spells to ensure the bulbs swell and the stems remain turgid. However, avoid overwatering in winter, as the bulbs can rot in cold, waterlogged soil.
How to Plant
Plant the Walking Onion bulbs or clumps in well-drained, average soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, covering the roots but leaving the tips exposed. Space them out to allow room for the top-heavy stems to eventually bend over and "walk" to new ground.
