Product description
Mint 'Red' is a popular perennial herb, famously prized for its attractive, dark reddish-purple stems which contrast beautifully with its green leaves. The primary part used for its culinary value is its aromatic leaves, which provide a strong, classic spearmint flavour, often considered one of the best for making traditional mint sauces and jellies. However, its edibility doesn't stop there; the attractive, small lilac-pink flowers that appear in spikes are also edible and make a lovely garnish for drinks and desserts.
When it comes to planting and maintenance, this is an easy-to-grow, spreading perennial that is extremely adaptable. It is not fussy about its light conditions and will thrive in locations with either full sun or partial shade. The main requirement for it to grow well is providing it with soil that is kept consistently moist, as it does not like to dry out. A critical maintenance point is that this mint is highly invasive, so it must be planted in a container or with root barriers to prevent it from spreading. As an added benefit, its attractive flowers are known to be very popular with pollinators.

Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

The dark stems of Mint 'Red' contain a high concentration of anthocyanins, so growing it in full sun will make the red colouration much more vivid than in shade. Use whole sprigs rather than chopped leaves as a garnish to showcase the striking contrast between the red stalk and green foliage.
How to Water
Mint 'Red' thrives in wet soil and should be watered frequently to stop the roots from drying out. It is very tolerant of damp conditions, so do not worry about overwatering as long as there is drainage.
How to Plant
Plant Mint 'Red' in rich, moist soil in a sunny or partially shaded location, burying a bucket or using a container to restrict the aggressive roots.
