Product description

The bright orange-yellow flowers of Heliopsis Orange Marble bring plenty of colour to the garden through summer, creating an eye-catching display that will be the envy of your neighbours. Each bloom has a simple, daisy-like shape, with the flowers held on upright stems above green foliage. Also known as False Sunflower, it flowers from summer into early autumn, making it useful for keeping colour going later in the season. The vibrant flowers also delight as cut blooms for indoor vase displays.

Like most Heliopsis, Orange Marble does best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It is easy to grow once established and will cope with some dry weather, although it benefits from a good watering during longer hot spells. Keep removing faded flowers if you want to encourage more blooms, or leave some of the final flowers to form seedheads, which can provide food for birds and add a little structure later in the year.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Avoid repeatedly feeding False Sunflower once it is growing well. Very rich conditions can encourage lots of leafy growth at the expense of flowers, so fertile soil and plenty of sunshine are usually more useful than regular doses of fertiliser. If you have a choice of planting position, give Heliopsis the afternoon sun rather than just morning light. The extra sunshine can help it flower more freely and keep its upright growth strong.

How to Water

Water Heliopsis thoroughly after planting, then keep an eye on the soil while it establishes, particularly during warm, dry weather. Once settled, it copes well with drier conditions, but a deep watering during prolonged dry spells will help keep the plant growing and flowering well.

How to Plant

Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil, leaving 45-60cm between plants so they have space to grow without being crowded by neighbouring plants. If growing False Sunflower in a container, use a good-quality, free-draining compost and choose a pot with plenty of room for the roots to develop.
