Avoid cutting back heavily in autumn, as its evergreen leaves provide useful colour and structure through the colder months, with the purple-red edging becoming more pronounced as temperatures drop. This Veronica generally needs very little pruning, but a light trim after flowering can help maintain its compact shape and encourage fresh growth; avoid cutting into old, bare wood, as Hebes do not always regenerate well from hard pruning.
How to Water
Water thoroughly after planting and continue to water regularly while the plant is settling in, particularly during dry spells or warmer weather. Once established, Veronica is relatively low maintenance, but check the soil during prolonged dry periods and water when the surface begins to dry, taking care not to leave the roots sitting in waterlogged soil.
How to Plant
Choose a sunny or partially shaded position with well-drained soil, then dig a hole slightly wider and deeper than the plant’s root ball. Place the Hebe at the same depth as it was growing in its original pot, backfill with soil and firm gently around the roots before watering thoroughly to help it settle in.
