Pro Tip: Double Up for Density

For a hedge that truly blocks out wind and noise, opt for a double row. Planting your hedging in a staggered zigzag pattern creates a wider, more stable foundation. It is the best way to get maximum coverage and density, especially if you are planting deciduous species.

Product description

Green Beech, known botanically as Fagus sylvatica, is a brilliant choice if you’re after a hedge that looks good in every season. The fresh green leaves in spring and summer give your garden a clean, natural look and, as autumn arrives, they turn warm copper tones that stay on the branches well into winter. This provides colour, structure and privacy throughout the year, making Green Beech a making Green Beech a reliable choice for creating a hedge that works hard all year round.

Planting a Green Beech hedge is simple. Space the young plants roughly 30-45cm apart to help them knit together into a thick, even line. If you’re covering a larger area or want a really solid screen, a staggered double row works well and fills out quickly.

Once in the ground, Fagus sylvatica is easy to look after. Keep the soil moist during the first two yeara so the roots can settle in properly, and water along the whole length of the hedge during dry spells. A light trim in late summer helps keep the shape neat and encourages dense growth from the base. With steady care in the early stages, your hedge will grow into a strong, attractive feature that lasts for decades.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Top Tip

Avoid overfeeding Green Beech during the first year, as giving too much fertiliser too soon can encourage soft, weak growth rather than helping the young hedge establish strong, healthy roots.

How to Water

Water newly planted Green Beech regularly during their first couple of seasons, keeping the soil evenly moist without leaving it waterlogged. Once established, they only need watering in dry spells, and it’s best to soak the whole length of the hedge so the roots develop evenly.

How to Plant

Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade and give the soil a good loosen before planting. Set each Green Beech plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot, and firm the ground lightly around the roots.Leave 30-45cm spacing between plants and water in well.
