Product description

The bold red flowers of Echinacea Red bring vibrant colour to the summer garden, with each bloom showing the unmistakable Coneflower shape. Sturdy stems hold the flowers above the dark green foliage, giving the plant a strong, upright growing habit that works well among other perennials. It flowers from summer into early autumn, and the open blooms are popular with bees and butterflies, making it a useful addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.

Once established, Echinacea Red is a fairly easy-going plant and copes well with periods of dry weather. It will flower best in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil, with a little extra water during prolonged dry spells. Leave some of the flowers to form seedheads towards the end of the season and they can provide food for birds, as well as adding some interest to the garden after flowering has finished.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Removing some faded flowers during summer can encourage the Coneflower to keep producing more blooms. Leave a few towards the end of the season so the seedheads can provide interest through autumn and winter.

How to Water

Water Echinacea thoroughly after planting, then allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings rather than keeping it constantly wet. Once established, it is fairly drought tolerant, but give it a good soak during prolonged hot or dry spells, particularly while it is flowering.

How to Plant

Plant Echinacea in a sunny position, leaving around 30-45cm between it and neighbouring plants so there is room for the foliage to develop. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as it was growing in its pot, then backfill and firm the soil gently around the roots.
