Product description

Centaurea montana brings a bold splash of blue to the garden, with its distinctive fringed flowers standing out cleanly against soft, silvery-green foliage. Its relaxed, slightly arching growth gives borders and plant beds a natural, effortless look, making it a useful choice for softening edges and filling gaps from late spring into summer.

Known for its resilience, it settles quickly into sunny, well drained spots and returns reliably each year with very little intervention. Spent blooms can be removed to encourage a longer display, and a light trim after flowering helps maintain a neat shape. With its hardy nature and steady performance, this Cornflower variety offers an easy way to introduce colour and texture to a wide range of outdoor spaces.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Keep the base of the Cornflower plant free from heavy mulch, as it prefers good air circulation around the crown. Use only a light mulch layer and pull it back slightly from the stems to prevent any buildup against the plant.

How to Water

Water Cornflower regularly while it settles in, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between each soak. Once established, it only needs watering during prolonged dry spells, as it prefers conditions that stay on the drier side.

How to Plant

Plant Centaurea in well‑drained soil, setting the crown level with the surrounding ground and firming the soil gently around the roots. Give it a sunny spot with around 40-50cm of space for its relaxed shape to develop, and it will settle in quickly and grow with very little fuss.
