Product description

Centaurea montana Amethyst Dream, commonly known as Perennial Cornflower, is a striking perennial that adds a touch of wild charm to gardens with its vivid purple, thistle-like flowers. These distinctive blooms emerge from a compact mound of silvery-green foliage, creating an eye-catching contrast. Ideal for cottage gardens, borders, and wildlife-friendly spaces, this plant brings vibrant colour to early summer displays.

Thriving in well-drained soil with access to full sun or partial shade, Centaurea montana Amethyst Dream is an adaptable and low-maintenance addition to any garden. Flowering from May to July, it pairs beautifully with other early summer perennials, enhancing seasonal interest. Once established, it exhibits good drought tolerance, making it a practical choice for various planting schemes.

A valuable selection for gardeners seeking long-lasting floral displays, Centaurea montana Amethyst Dream is well-suited for container growing, garden beds, and rock gardens. Its nectar-rich flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, supporting biodiversity. Additionally, the cut flowers can be enjoyed indoors, bringing their unique beauty into your home.

Instructions

Top Tip

Remove spent flowers. For bushier growth, pinch back young plants in early spring.

How to Water

Centaurea is drought-tolerant and prefers moderate watering. Water deeply when the soil is dry, but avoid overwatering. In dry spells, provide weekly watering, but in rainy conditions, additional water is rarely needed. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.

How to Plant

Plant Centaurea in well-draining soil with full sun. Space plants 30-45cm apart. Sow seeds directly in early spring or transplant seedlings after the last frost. Cover seeds lightly with soil and keep moist until germination. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering.
