Product description

Verbena Lavender is a highly dependable, semi-evergreen tender perennial grown as a summer bedding favourite. Prized for its trailing, mat-forming habit, it produces dense clusters of small, tubular, soft lavender-purple flowers that act as an absolute magnet for passing bees and butterflies. Because its foliage is finely lobed and slightly textured, it creates a lush, highly efficient ground cover or container edge-spiller that softens hard container rims perfectly.

This sun-worshipper demands a south or west-facing position in full, unobstructed sunlight to prevent its trailing stems from stretching and becoming leggy. Plant it in a well-draining loam or sandy potting mix with a neutral to slightly acidic pH, ensuring the top inch of compost dries out between waterings to prevent root rot. To keep the floral engine running from June until the first autumn frosts, apply a liquid feed weekly and give the plant a light trim with shears mid-season to encourage fresh, bushy side shoots.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

To keep Verbena Lavender blooming until the first frost, trim back leggy stems mid-season. This encourages fresh growth and a new flush of vibrant lavender flowers. Regular deadheading of old clusters is also essential for success.

How to Water

Keep the soil for Verbena Lavender consistently moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top inch of compost to dry out between helpings to prevent root rot. During a summer heatwave, check your containers daily for signs of thirst.

How to Plant

Position Verbena Lavender in a sun-drenched spot using well-draining compost. Space them about 30cm apart to allow the stems plenty of room to spread. This variety thrives in the heat of a south-facing garden.
