Product description
The Lobelia Upright Blue is a fantastic clumping filler that produces masses of tiny, vivid blue flowers designed to pack out the middle tier of your basket. It acts as a brilliant structural bridge between your tall centrepieces and your trailing vines, creating a dense mound of unbroken colour. While it is completely frost-tender and lacks a scent, its tubular blooms will occasionally draw the attention of smaller, visiting hoverflies.
This delicate-looking plant is actually incredibly thirsty and requires a strictly 'damp' environment to survive the intense summer heat. You must keep the compost consistently wet, treating the basket almost as if it were a bog environment. Allowing the soil to dry out even once during a heatwave will cause the fragile root system to instantly crisp up, and the plant rarely recovers from severe dehydration.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Instructions
Top Tip
If the floral display starts to look tired and faded, do not be afraid to be ruthless. Take a pair of sharp shears and chop the entire plant back by half its height. This drastic haircut triggers the Lobelia Upright Blue to push out a massive burst of fresh green growth and new buds.
How to Water
Hanging baskets dry out rapidly, and this specific filler absolutely hates drought conditions. You must maintain a consistently damp soil environment to stop the delicate root system from crisping up. Checking the basket daily guarantees your Lobelia Upright Blue will never suffer from fatal dehydration.
How to Plant
Bury the small root plug into the middle tier of your basket using a moisture-retentive loam compost. Make sure you gently tease the roots apart before planting to encourage them to spread outward. Giving your Lobelia Upright Blue this central spot allows it to act as a brilliant, bushy filler between the taller plants.
