Product description

Delicate lilac flowers give Alstroemeria Liliana a softer look than many of the brighter varieties, with each bloom opening into the characteristic lily-like shape above slender stems. The flowers are complemented by narrow, green foliage and a compact, upright habit, making Liliana well suited to planting among other perennials or growing in a container. Better known as Peruvian Lily, it provides a succession of flowers through summer, bringing a fresh touch of colour to the garden when many early-season blooms have faded.

For the best results, grow Alstroemeria in a sunny or partially shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil, and give it regular moisture during dry spells. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant, although it will perform best when the soil does not dry out completely. Remove faded flower stems throughout the season to encourage fresh blooms, and in colder areas, provide some protection from severe winter weather.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

As the clusters of flowers develop, the stems can become top-heavy, particularly after rainfall. Planting Alstroemeria among other border plants or adding discreet support early in the season can help keep the flowering stems upright and prevent them from flopping.

How to Water

Keep Peruvian Lily evenly moist while it is establishing, particularly during warm or dry periods. Once established, allow the soil to dry slightly between applications, and avoid leaving the roots sitting in soggy conditions.

How to Plant

Plant Alstroemeria in fertile, well-drained soil, choosing a sunny or partially shaded position with enough space for the clump to develop. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, position the plant at the same depth as it was growing in its container, then backfill and firm the soil gently around the base.
