• Characteristics: Deciduous fern, foliage turns red-brown in autumn. Forms clumps of bipinnate fronds bearing rusty-brown pinnae on the tips
• Height & Spread: Grows to around 2.5m tall, spreads to roughly 1m wide
• Period of Interest: Summer and Autumn interest. Autumn brings striking colour in the form of deep red foliage and stems bearing clusters of brown spore spikes.
• Plant Advice: Plant in moist, cool, well-drained soil. Grows well in shaded areas or full sun with plenty of moisture. A good option for very wet areas.

Osmunda regalis is a robust fern with deciduous foliage that initally presents as green early in the year, before turning an attractive red/brown colour in autumn. A clump forming variety, bipinnate fronds grow to around 2.5m in height, before bearing rusty-brown coloured pinnae that sometimes bear an abundance of spores.

A hardy blooming fern, this variety can be planted in any soil so long as it provides good drainage, and it can be planted anywhere in the garden, full shade, partially exposed or full sun.
