Characteristics: Bushy perennial shrubs with lush green foliage and masses of large 5-petalled flowers from July onward.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of up to 1.8m and spread of up to 1.3m.
Care and Maintenance: Plant in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. Water well during dry spells. Deadhead before seed heads form to encourage further flowering. A hard prune in spring encourages fresh regrowth, and can help extend the plant’s longevity.
Period of Interest: Lavatera is a semi-evergreen shrub with grey-green leaves throughout the year and pretty colourful flowers from July to October.
Top Tip: Lavatera is a great choice for cut flower displays and bouquets, lasting almost two weeks in clean water.
