Characteristics: Evergreen, palm-like tree with long, green leaves that fan out in a cluster from a thick trunk.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of 6m, maximum spread of 4m.
Care and Maintenance: Your Cordyline will enjoy a spot in full sun or dappled shade. Plant in moist but well-drained soil composed of Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sand.
Period of Interest: Flowers in summer, blue/white berries in autumn. Year-round foliage.
Cordyline Australis, commonly known as the Cabbage Palm, is an evergreen tree of small stature, perfect for a home garden with a tropical touch. Emerging from the strong main trunk, several stout branches will bear long, sword-shaped leaves that grow in dense clusters.
In summer, you can expect to see the Cabbage Palm release large panicles of creamy white, small and perfumed flowers. Come autumn, the blossoms will develop into black seeds.
