Product Description
Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi is an essential product that helps establish your plants, made with mycorrhizal fungi, a micro-organism with which trees have had a symbiotic relationship for millions of years. Once your plants are in the ground, it will develop a highly-active secondary root system, with the explicit purpose of exponentially increasing the uptake of water and nutrients, everything needed in order to allow your plants to flourish.
Characteristics: Upright slender tree with mid-green, deeply ribbed leaves in spring and summer, turning yellow and orange in autumn.
Flowering: Pendulous green catkins in April.
Height and Spread in 20 years: 7m / 4m. Flame shaped.
Hardiness and Best Position: Fully Hardy. Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Any good garden soil.
Carpinus 'Fastigiata' makes a great statement in a garden with its tall, slender flame-shape. It is ideal to plant in tight spaces or in smaller gardens where spreading trees cannot be accommodated.
Upright Hornbeam trees have dense glossy mid-green, deeply ribbed leaves which appear in spring and last through the summer. As autumn approaches they put on a show when the foliage turns to a lovely yellow and orange. Spring sees pendulous green catkins handing from the branches which are followed by winged fruits. The leaves fall in winter, leaving an imposing shape of bare branches.
Your Upright Hornbeam tree is extremely tough and tolerant of a wide range of soil types and conditions. It ideal for exposed regions and the cooler northern regions. The tree attracts an abundance of wildlife bringing sound and movement into your outdoor living space. Apart from bees, butterflies and birds, it is attractive to the rare hawfinch and a wide variety of moths.
This lovely tree will reach heights of 7m and a spreads of 4m in a 20 year period. They are ideal to plant as a single specimen tree or can be used for screening purposes along a boundary wall or to line a driveway. If you want to try your hand at topiary, Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata' is the perfect tree. Once you become an expert you will be able to trim it into the most exotic and eye-caching ornamental forms and shapes! They are also idea for parks and for planting to line avenues in public spaces.
