SEASONAL AVAILABILITY: Bare Root plants are supplied from late November until Spring the following year.
CHARACTERISTICS: Prunus Padus Bird Cherry hedge plants are deciduous trees with broad spreading branches upon which clusters of pure white flowers bloom in spring. Glossy black fruits grow after flowering, which are popular with wildlife despite being bitter tasting to people.
HEIGHT AND SPREAD: Supplied in a dormant state, these outdoor shrubs can eventually grow to an ultimate height of approximately 10-15 metres, and they can grow almost as wide as they do tall. Pruning in summer will keep the plant at the desired height and shape.
PLANTING TIPS: Bare-Root hedging is typically planted in a double staggered row of 5 plants per metre. Evergreen plants are generally planted to less density than deciduous plants, such is the nature of their dense foliage.
Prunus Padus Bird Cherry, supplied as bare root hedge plants, are deciduous trees with long, broad, spreading branches. Clusters of small, pure white, showy blossoms bloom along the branches throughout spring creating a stunning display. Flowering makes way for dark, glossy berries which are too bitter tasting for people, but they are very popular among wildlife.
These garden plants are perfect as flowering hedge plants for larger gardens because they look particularly good when they are allowed to grow to their full size. This is an excellent tree not only for ornamental value, but for attracting birds and other wildlife to the garden!
