Characteristics: Upright deciduous shrub with pale red leaves edged with bright yellow-green throughout Spring and Summer.
Growth & Spread: Ultimate height of 1 – 1.5m and spread of 0.2 – 0.5m.
Period of Interest: Spring and Summer interest. Salmon red foliage in Spring turning darker and developing yellow border in Summer or turning green if kept in shaded areas. Insignificant flowers appear in Spring.
Plant Advice: Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy and cold resistant. Low maintenance shrub.
Berberis thunbergii ‘Orange Sunrise’ is a great shrub with some interesting and exotic colours that make it an excellent addition to any garden display. The upright stems carry small, rounded leaves which emerge deep pink in the Spring months before maturing to bright red with yellow margins in the Summer. Tiny, insignificant flowers appear near the tops of the stems and make for great pollinators. A versatile option for use as informal hedging or as a specimen plant.
Plant in moist, well-drained soil. A hardy and cold tolerant species that is generally low maintenance. Requires minimal pruning and should not grow out of control. Cut older stems to allow fresh growth.
