• Characteristics: Slow-growing, deciduous shrub that bears small green flowers in Spring. Its lobed leaves are pink in Spring, lime green-yellow and red-edged in Summer and a mix of yellow, orange and red in Autumn. Red fruit also grows in Autumn.
• Growth and Spread: Ultimate height and spread of up to 2.5m.
• Care and Maintenance: Acers prefer partial shade, so avoid prolonged exposure to full sun. It will tolerate most soil types, as long as this remains well-drained and watered well.
• Period of Interest: Small flowers appear in Spring. Its foliage is pink in Spring to green, yellow and red in Summer, then orange-red in Autumn, when red fruit also appears.

Acer palmatum Summer Gold is a deciduous shrub that, in Spring, bears small green flowers alongside pink foliage. This then changes to a lime green-yellow and red-edged look in Summer, before rounding off its annual show of colour with a mix of yellow, orange and red in Autumn. This slow-growing plant will also produce red fruit in Autumn, giving it plenty of character when it reaches its ultimate height and spread of 1.5m - 2.5m.

Acers can be cared for with relative ease. Plant in an area of partial shade and aim to avoid long periods of exposure to full sunlight. It can tolerate most soil types, requiring you keep it moist, well-drained and ensure watering is kept to a regular, consistent level.
