The Acer Inaba Shidare, commonly known as a Japanese maple tree, is a small and bushy ornamental tree which produce palmately-lobed leaves accompanies by small flowers. Renown for the hardy ‘lollipop’ single stem, this Acer tree is perfect to grow in flower borders, small gardens & patios.
These deciduous trees will thrive in moist, well-drained soil - preferable loam, clay, sand or chalk soil. 'Inaba-shidare' is a vigorous-growing species, so to achieve strong coloured leaves, it's best to situate in partially shaded areas, however, they are full sun tolerant. Either of these positions will give it the best opportunity to thrive.
Due to the trees hardy and bushy structure, they’re a fairly low maintenance plant to monitor. It’s recommended to prune annually to encourage fresh, healthy shoots and improve flowering for the following season. If planting in Spring or Summer, water well and regularly for the first few months. If planting in Autumn, little watering is required. Make sure not to over-hydrate and don't let the soil dry out during the warmer months.
Acer trees are valued all year round for their vibrant display of colours and stunning arched branches. Emerging in Spring with deep purple foliage which carries all the way through to Autumn, where this unique colour will be joined by lovely, crimson red coloured incised lobed leaves - producing a very eye-catching ornamental tree for your garden.
Acer palm palmatum 'Inaba-shidare' is a deciduous ornamental tree, with beautiful arching branches and widely spaced purple leaves which turn a vibrant crimson red colour in Autumn. Due to their sturdy 'lollipop' single straight stem, this acer tree is Ideal to situate in small gardens, patios, flower borders and beds! These weeping trees will thrive in partial shade or full sun - make sure to water regularly during the warmer months.
As the tree settles in, it is always recommended to prune back towards the end of flourishing season. With this particular variety, it is advised to prune annually to encourage strong, healthy shoots and improve flowering for the following season. This will also prolong the life span for the tree. As Winter comes, the tree will enter its dormant stage of development and will shed all its leaves due to being deciduous.
