  • Characteristics: A medium sized, deciduous tree with a compact bushy crown, often used as a hedging plant. Produces 5 lobed, green leaves and small green flowers that turn into fruits.
  • Period of Interest: The foliage appears in Spring, along with the small green flowers. Later in Autumn, the foliage turns yellow or red, and the flowers produce small maple fruits. The leaves die back in winter.
  • Growth and Spread: Will reach an ultimate height of more than 12 metres and spread of 4 to 8 metres. Easy to maintain at 1-5m.
  • Plant Care: The plant is fully hardy and easy to care for. It is suitable for most soil types, best planted in full sun or partial shade.

Acer Campestre, also known as field maple, is a lovely addition to any garden. It has distinctive 5 lobed, green leaves that turn yellow/red in Autumn. The plant blooms small green flowers in Spring, that produce tiny maple fruits in Autumn. This is a great tree, attractive as a specimen or as a native mix and is often used as a hedging plant.

This tree is best grown in full sun or partial shade. It is suitable for any soil, as long as it its moist but well drained. It is fully hardy and easy to grow.
