Characteristics: Easy to grow biennial with edible bulbs and long, tubular green leaves. Produces medium to large size onions.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of up to 0.5m and spread of up to 0.4m.
Care and Maintenance: Plant in full sun and water well during dry spells. Keep the area free of weeds by hand weeding to prevent disturbing the crop.
Period of Interest: Harvest from July to September when the foliage begins to wither and turn brown.
Top Tip: Remove any flowers as they appear. This prevents the plant using energy to flower and allows it to focus on swelling the edible bulb.

The Hyfort is a high yielding variety of onion with a typical light brown papery skin. It has a sharp crisp taste and a strong flavour, making it perfect for an abundance of culinary uses. Hyfort onions store well and once dried out in full sun, they can be kept in a cool, dark and well ventilated space (such as a shed or garage) for use all year round.
This 8 cell tray is ready to be planted out in beds, borders, pots or containers.
