Product Description
Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi is an essential product that helps establish your plants, made with mycorrhizal fungi, a micro-organism with which trees have had a symbiotic relationship for millions of years. Once your plants are in the ground, it will develop a highly-active secondary root system, with the explicit purpose of exponentially increasing the uptake of water and nutrients, everything needed in order to allow your plants to flourish.
Characteristics: A large-sized evergreen shrub with a spreading habit and dark green leaves.
Growth & Spread: A moderate rate grower, around 0.4 m a year. Can reach heights of 5.0 to 7.5 m and larger. Spreads can also be large, up to and over 4.0 to 5.0 m.
Flourishing Season: Small white flowers appear on racemes in the early summer around June.
Water & Maintenance: Water until established. A relatively easy to maintain plant.
“Lusitanica” originates from southwestern France into the Iberian Peninsula. It is noteworthy for its excellent hedging growth and is of a bushy habit.
Foliage is composed of dark green, glossy leaves that are ovate and approximately 10 to 12 cm in length. Also pleasant are the fragrant, white flowers which appear on lengthy racemes of about 20 to 30 cm in the early summer. Later in the autumn season, appear small purple-coloured fruits.
Overall, this plant is easy to maintain after it is established. The height and spread make it perfect for hedging because it is both dense and large in stature. In addition, it is drought resistant and hardy throughout most of the UK, down to -15⁰ C.
Plant in most soil types, as long as they are well-drained. It also prefers full sun to partial shade. These plants work well in several different areas, including informal settings and in city and courtyard areas.
Prune at the end of the growing season in winter, or in the beginning of spring. Should only need light pruning to maintain shape and remove unwanted or damaged limbs.
