Product description
Lavender is a universally adored herb cultivated primarily for the calming, floral fragrance found in its slender spikes of purple blooms and silver-green foliage. This intoxicating scent, which is clean, sweet, and slightly resinous, is released effortlessly when the plant is brushed against or dried. It is traditionally used to scent linen cupboards and create relaxing essential oils, though culinary varieties are also prized for adding a delicate floral note to shortbread, sugars, and summer cordials.
This plant is typically grown as a compact, woody evergreen shrub that provides year-round structure and colour in the garden. While hardiness varies by variety, all lavenders dislike winter dampness more than the cold itself. For the best results and the most abundant flowers, plant it in a location with full, baking sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and demands poor, sharp-draining soil, as it will rapidly succumb to root rot if grown in heavy, fertile, or waterlogged ground.

Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Lavender requires annual pruning to prevent it from becoming leggy, woody, and unattractive. Trim the plant back in late summer once the flowers have faded, removing the flower stalks and a small amount of foliage. Crucially, never cut back into the bare, old wood, as lavender will not regrow from these parts.
How to Water
Water young Lavender plants regularly during their first growing season to help them establish a deep root system. Once mature, they are incredibly drought-resistant and thrive on neglect; avoid watering them unless there is a severe, prolonged drought, and never spray water over the foliage.
How to Plant
Plant Lavender in the sunniest spot in your garden with excellent drainage. It thrives in poor, chalky, or sandy soils. If you have heavy clay soil, it is essential to mix in plenty of horticultural grit or plant on a raised mound to ensure the roots stay dry and healthy.
