Vietnamese Coriander, often known as Rau Răm, is a vigorous herb cultivated primarily for the intense, spicy aroma found in its pointed, dark-marked leaves. This potent flavour, which resembles fresh coriander but with a hotter, peppery kick and zesty lemony undertones, is released instantly when the foliage is eaten raw or added to hot dishes. It is traditionally used as a defining ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly in laksa soups, summer rolls, and spicy salads, where it holds its flavour far better than standard coriander when cooked.
This plant is typically grown as a tender, low-spreading ground cover that thrives in warm, damp conditions, making it an excellent candidate for pots or boggy areas of the garden. It is highly susceptible to cold and must be brought indoors or protected from frost to survive winter. How to Water
Vietnamese Coriander is a semi-aquatic plant in the wild and is virtually impossible to overwater. Keep the soil permanently soggy or even stand the pot in a saucer of water. If the roots dry out even slightly, the plant will wilt dramatically and the leaves will turn crispy.
