Product description
Lemon Balm is a vigorous and widely loved herb cultivated almost exclusively for the intense, fresh citrus aroma found in its crinkled green leaves. This potent scent, which is refreshing and uplifting, is released instantly when the leaves are rubbed or steeped in hot water. It is traditionally used as a calming natural remedy for stress and anxiety, particularly in herbal teas, but also makes a zesty addition to fruit salads, summer drinks, and poultry dishes where a hint of lemon is desired without the acidity.
This plant is typically grown as a hardy, bushy perennial that forms a rapidly spreading clump, making it an excellent filler for wilder areas of the garden or a bee-friendly patch. It is incredibly tough and frost-tolerant, dying back in winter before shooting up vigorously again in spring. For the best results and most aromatic oils, plant it in a location with full sun or partial shade. It is moderately drought-tolerant but performs best in fertile, well-drained soil that is kept evenly moist to prevent the leaves from browning at the edges.

Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Lemon Balm is a member of the mint family and is incredibly eager to self-seed all over the garden. To stop it from becoming a weed, simply trim off the flower spikes as soon as they fade, before the seeds have a chance to ripen and scatter.
How to Water
Keep Lemon Balm well-watered, especially during hot, dry spells. If the soil becomes too dry, the plant will stress, causing the leaves to turn yellow or develop brown edges. Regular watering ensures lush, green foliage that is full of essential oils.
How to Plant
Plant Lemon Balm in a pot or an isolated border to control its spread. It thrives in average, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Dig a hole the same depth as the root ball, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly to settle the roots.
