Product description
Angelica Common is a majestic, architectural plant cultivated primarily for its thick, hollow stems and unique aromatic properties. The flavour is distinct—musky, juniper-like, and slightly sweet—and is often used to offset the tartness of acidic fruits like rhubarb and gooseberries, reducing the need for sugar. Traditionally, the young stems are candied to create the bright green decorations found on cakes, while the seeds and roots serve as essential botanicals in the production of gin and herbal liqueurs like Chartreuse.
This plant is typically grown as a towering biennial that produces massive, spherical flower heads in its second or third year before dying back after setting seed. It is fully hardy but requires significant space to accommodate its impressive height, which can reach up to two metres. For the best results and lush growth, plant it in a location with partial shade, mimicking a woodland edge. It is not drought-tolerant and thrives in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil that is kept consistently moist through regular watering.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Angelica Common is monocarpic, meaning the plant dies after it has flowered and produced seeds. To ensure you have plants every year, allow at least one flower head to go to seed and scatter naturally, or sow fresh seeds immediately, as they lose viability very quickly if stored.
How to Water
Angelica Common is a thirsty plant that naturally grows in damp woodlands and riverbanks. Water it frequently and generously, especially during warm spells, as the large leaves will quickly droop and the plant will become stressed if the soil is allowed to dry out.
How to Plant
Plant Angelica Common in deep, moist, and slightly acidic soil where it has plenty of room to spread its large leaves. It prefers a cool spot in partial shade but can tolerate sun if the soil is consistently damp.
