Characteristics: This first early variety of McCain Seed Potato are flavoursome, high yielding potatoes with great versatility. 'Premiere' are oval-shaped, gold tubers with thin skin. They have a waxy, creamy texture that are great for making chips, roasties and mash, as well as boiling and steaming.
Harvesting Period: 'Premiere' will harvest in the months of May - June.
Planting Advice: First early potatoes should be chitted around 6 weeks before planting as it encourages the seed potatoes to develop sprouts, giving them the best possible start. Planting should begin when the soil warms up, then dig a trench around 10cm deep and add a small amount of fertiliser. Plant in a position with plenty of sun and water regularly.
Care & Maintenance: Keep seed potatoes away from frost pockets and ensure sunlight is present as much as possible. You should water them regularly, aiming to keep the soil moist and well-drained throughout their growth.
McCain 'Premiere' First Early Seed Potatoes are a variety of potato with great flavour and versatility. A high yield of oval-shaped potatoes will grow, bearing gold skin and a creamy texture. They are also a good choice for culinary uses such as making chips, roasties and mash, as well as being boiled or steamed. They should be planted in late February and will harvest in the months of May - June. Place them in a sheltered plot of the garden in moist, well-drained soil. If space is limited, growing them in potato bags is another suitable option.
