A bushy, evergreen, hardy fern native to most countries in Europe. Polystichum aculeatum, commonly known as hard shield fern, has an upright, rosette shape and narrow, leathery, dark green fronds with slightly spiky pinnules.
Plant in moist, well drained soil. Keep in partial or full shade. A wonderful addition to a shaded border or woodland garden.
