Bird Peanuts

Bird peanuts offer a tasty snack to wild birds in your garden, especially during breeding season and the colder months. Rich in vitamins and essential oils, peanuts are a great source of energy, protein and fat, helping birds to maintain healthy feathers and sharp beaks.  We stock a wide range of excellent quality peanuts for birds on our website. Our ranges span split peanuts, kibbled peanuts and whole peanuts to ensure your local bird population will be well fed. Crucially, it’s important to only feed birds peanuts which are raw and unsalted, as roasted or salted peanuts can be harmful to birds. Therefore, all of the bird peanuts you’ll find on our website are specifically catered for feeding your feathered friends. How To Feed Birds Peanuts

Birds absolutely love nuts because they are a high energy snack. Whole peanuts give birds an abundance of nutrients from this one food source alone.

But, it’s worth noting the best ways to serve peanuts for birds to ensure they don’t cause any harm especially to small birds.

Crushed Peanuts On The Ground

Plan on buying food or a bag of peanuts, but don’t have a bird feeder?

Peanuts placed on the ground or on a table need to be crushed down first. This is to ensure that smaller birds won’t choke on the large pieces.

Peanuts In Bird Feeder

If you’re yet to purchase a peanut feeder, or if your current bird feeder is suited towards smaller seeds, we’d highly recommend you add a peanut bird feeder to your order.

Bird peanut feeders are geared towards larger seeds, ensuring birds can easily access the delicious and nutritious snacks that you leave out for them.

The main difference with a peanut feeder is the larger gap spacing, as peanuts are wider than typical bird seeds. In addition, our bird feeders boast superior quality. Our rigid mesh feeder is geared towards all weathers.

Placing your bird peanuts in a specialist feeder off the ground also helps keep birds safe from predators.

Can Birds Eat Peanuts?

Yes! Peanuts are an extremely attractive snack to wild birds, as peanuts contain a high protein source. That said, it’s important to purchase ‘bird peanuts’ such as the ones we stock here on our website. This is to ensure the peanuts do not contain salt or any other human ingredients which can be harmful to birds.

Do I Need To Crush Wild Bird Peanuts?

Any peanuts left on the ground must be crushed up first so that birds will not choke. If placed in a bird feeder, birds will peck away at the peanuts, and by taking smaller pecks they are less likely to choke. Although optional, you can also crush peanuts before placing them into a bird feeder to be extra careful.

Can Birds Eat Salted Peanuts?

No. Please ensure you only give birds peanuts which are specifically ‘bird peanuts’, as these are unsalted and raw.
