Characteristics: A low, dense evergreen shrub with leathery, dark green leaves. This perennial blooms from spring into summer with urn-shaped white flowers and eventually producing bright red berries.
Growth and spread: Ultimate height of 0.1-0.5m and spread of 0.5-1m.
Period of interest: Small white or light pink flowers will bloom in mid Spring, followed by bright red lingonberries by the end of summer/early autumn.
Water and maintenance: Grows well in sun or shade with moist ground and requires even, frequent watering.
Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Koralle' - commonly known as Lingonberry - is a low-growing, creeping evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves which turn a rustic mahogany in winter. In mid spring, the shrub produces small white or light pink flowers, later producing a crop of bright red lingonberries from late summer into mid autumn.
Growing to an ultimate height of 0.5m. and spread of up to 1m., Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Koralle' is an excellent ground cover plant which forms a dense thicket. This fruiting perennial reaches it's ultimate height in 5-10 years, producing edible lingonberries year after year.
