Characteristics: Small, creamy-white flowers followed by large, red, kiwi-like fruits - the more sun, the redder they become.
Growth and Spread: Grows to around 4m high, spreads to roughly 4m wide.
Period of Interest: Flowers between late Summer and early Autumn. Fruits begin to appear shortly after flowering.
Water and Maintenance: Requires regular watering during Summer. Keep soil moist, but not waterlogged. Remove entwined, diseased or crowded stems in Spring to keep the plant in the best shape.
Actinidia arguta Ken's Red is a hardy, compact, climbing vine variety that bears delicious red fruit. Its attractive, creamy-white flowers are a key feature of the plant, alongside the large fruit it can produce. When paired with a male arguta pollinator, the plant will produce delightful, red kiwi fruit that is both tasty and smooth-skinned. This delightful produce does not require peeling before consumption. Due to its disease and weather tolerant capabilities, this plant can perform in the best and worst weather conditions. It can also be planted in almost any type of soil, providing that it is kept moist and well drained through regular watering. When positioning the plant, partially shaded areas are fine, but it will thrive best when exposed to full sunlight.
