Characteristics: The Juglans Regia Tree, more commonly known as Walnut Trees, are hardy, deciduous outdoor plants with leafy green foliage which produce green fruits, ripening into edible walnuts from midsummer until autumn.

Care and maintenance: Plant Walnut trees in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Annual pruning in early spring will contain growth and maximise the potential for more fruits each year.

Period of interest: Deciduous foliage blooms each year from spring until autumn, with flowers blooming from spring until early summer. After flowering, walnuts begin to ripen and are ready for harvest from mid-July until October.

Juglans Regia, commonly know as the Walnut tree, is a deciduous fruit tree, with green, pinnate leaves. In early spring, yellow-green catkins begin to bloom, continuing until early summer, before fruits begin to grow and ripen. Fruits emerge green, and the first crop will usually be when the tree is around 4-5 years old.

Walnuts generally ripen in autumn, although they can have a chewy texture when eaten straight after picking. They are best eaten dried out after removing the casing, when they can be eaten alone or used in a variety of different dishes and recipes.
