  • Hydrangea Macrophylla shrubs are well-known with garden enthusiasts for their stunning array of vibrant colours and hardy figure. As the plants mature and grow, they will form into an oval shaped bush, presenting stunning flowers and foliage through the flourishing season. These beautiful plants are perfect plant for flower beds, borders, containers or just to fill any blank space in your garden.
  • Macrophylla shrubs require little maintenance due to their hardy and compact structure. They prefer moist soils, so if exposed to direct sunlight, make sure to water regularly. Avoid dry soil or cover the soil with a layer of organic mulch to retain moisture. Fertilizers are not necessarily required if the soil is organically healthy. The plants can tolerate most extreme weather temperatures but may need protection during the Winter season.
  • Once settled into their new environment, hydrangea shrubs become fairly low maintenance garden plants. Due to being deciduous, they only require little pruning - Just clip away any uneven or extra-long stems if necessary, make sure to do this towards the end of their flourishing season to encourage fresh, variegated growth for the following year. If planting in Spring or Summer, water well and regularly for the first few months. If planting in Autumn, little watering is required. Make sure not to over-hydrate and don't let the soil dry out during the warmer months.
  • Hydrangeas are valued all year round for their strong display of toughness and colours. Emerging in Spring with maturing shades of green accompanied by light purple, pink, red or blue colours (depending on which variety you purchase), before entering their flourishing season during Summer where these bright colours take over the plant with a beautiful green foliage to match. Then coming into the shrubs dormant stage over Winter, the warm colours will begin to fade away and begin the cycle all over again.

Hydrangea shrubs have a bushy and compact habit making them ideal for flower beds, patio collections or just to fill any plank space in the garden. They add a burst of colour with their bright circular flowers. The plants stand upright, against the canvas of silken green foliage, they attract birds, bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.

Take care while pruning Hydrangea during Spring/Summer, remove dead wood only once the new growth has emerged. Deadheading the faded flowers regularly will encourage repeat blooms. Plant them in a sheltered spot protecting from cold winds that can damage the flower buds.
