Characteristics: A bushy perennial with aromatic golden leaves. Clusters of tiny pink flowers bloom on top of the foliage in summer.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height and spread of up to 0.5m. Supplied in a 8cm pot.
Care and Maintenance: Oregono Golden is a very low maintenance herb to grow. Place in well drained soil in a sunny spot. Prune back old stems in early spring.
Period of Interest: Golden green foliage emerges in spring with pink flowers blossoming from June to September.
Top Tip: Harvest just before the flowers begin to form for a more intense flavour.
As a low growing perennial, Oregano Golden is an ideal herb to place towards the front of your ornamental border or kitchen garden. It also flourishes in pots and window boxes. The attractive golden hue of the leaves provide a burst of summery colour, which is enhanced by clusters of small pink flowers.
Origanum vulgare Aureum leaves are most flavoursome when fresh but they can be dried for use over the winter. Fresh leaves can be added to salads and complement roast meat well. The aromatic flavour makes Oregano Golden a staple of pizzas and pasta sauces. It is also a popular herb for poultry stuffing.
Also known as Golden Marjoram, Oregano Golden is easy to grow and its flowers are loved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
