• Characteristics: Rosette shaped, robust, semi-evergreen, hardy fern. Triangular, forest green fronds and a scaly brown midrib.

• Period of Interest: Foliage interest throughout most of the year. Plant will stay green in milder winters but may die back in cold weather and exposed areas.
• Water & Maintenance: Plant in a moist, well drained, humus rich soil. Thrives best in partial to full shade but will grow in full sun, if watered regularly.

Dryopteris austriaca, otherwise known as Dryopteris dilatata or Broad Buckler fern, is a rosette forming, robust, semi-evergreen, hardy fern. This plant produces triangular shaped fronds, that resemble the shape of christmas trees. The pinnae are dark green in colour and have speckled brown midribs. This plant is the perfect addition to a shaded border, bed or woodland area.

Plant in a moist, well drained, humus rich soil. Thrives best in partial to full shade but will grow in full sun, if watered regularly.
