• Characteristics: A tender tropical perennial with a pleasant aroma. Reddish-purple stems produce long green leaves with a striking burgundy V-shape pattern. Popular in South East Asian cuisine, particularly in Vietnam. Supplied in 8cm pot.
• Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of up to 1m and spread of up to 1.5m.
• Care and Maintenance: Place in a sheltered spot in full sun. Copes well with all soil types but likes it to be moist. Generally low maintenance with no pruning required. If possible, bring indoors or move to a greenhouse over winter to protect against harsh temperatures.
• Period of Interest: Late spring to early autumn. Plants moved to a sunny windowsill for winter can still be harvested during the colder months.
• Top Tip: Pinch the tips occasionally to promote fresh leaf growth.

This culinary herb boasts a unique flavour, which is complemented by its highly aromatic foliage. The strong flavour is particularly well suited to curries, stir fries, soups and noodle dishes but can also be used sparingly to add nuance to salads. Leaves are best used fresh and the younger ones tend to be the most flavoursome. Add the leaves towards the end of cooking for best results.

Also known as Persicaria odorata, Vietnamese Coriander enjoys a sheltered, sunny spot in moist but free-draining soil. It can succumb to frost quite easily, so bring it inside for winter to prolong harvesting. Coriander Vietnamese works well in pots and containers, making it easy to move around with the sun and the seasons.

Striking foliage and a spreading habit make Coriander Vietnamese an attractive addition to any kitchen garden. Burgundy chevron markings decorate the long lance shaped leaves and, if you’re lucky, you may notice spikes of tiny pink flowers blossom as autumn approaches.
