Characteristics: A deciduous shrub with dark green foliage, with white flowers blooming in spring and then producing juicy, edible blueberries in summer. Can be semi-evergreen in milder climates.
Growth and spread: Can reach and ultimate height of 1.5-2.5m and an ultimate spread of 1.5-2.5m over the course of 5-10 years.
Period of interest: Glossy leaves are accompanied by white, bell-shaped flowers in spring, followed by clusters bluberries in summer, ready for harvest by midsummer and for several weeks following.
Water and maintenance: Requires planting in moisture-rich, well-drained, acidic soil. Requires a sheltered area, in full sun or partial shade. The soil should be kept moist, and the shrub will benefit from winter protection. The best fruit is achieved when three different cultivars are planted together.
Vaccinium corymbosum 'Bluegold' is an excellent addition to any garden, culinary or ornamental. The glossy, dark green foliage will turn a stunning crimson or deep purple in winter, providing a year-round burst of colour. By spring, white, bell-shaped flowers - sometimes with a hint of pink - will bloom. By mid-summer, the shrub will be filled with clusters of plump, blue juicy berries.
Growing to an ultimate height and spread of 1.5-2.5m, Vaccinium corymbosum 'Bluegold' is perfect for patios, flowerbeds, borders and more. The blueberries are perfect for making jams and preserves, adding to desserts or simply eating on their own.
