Product description

An interesting shrub native to brazil, the Abutilon Megapotamicum is a bushy deciduous medium-sized shrub with small, pendulous flowers appearing throughout the lance-shaped to ovate green foliage from Summer through to Autumn. The outer sepals are a rich crimson and give the appearance of a small lantern while the inner petals are a contrasting bright yellow. Together these give the plant a very exotic and tropical feel that fits nicely into warm Summer gardens.

Plant in moist, well-drained soils and keep in full sun. Keep in sheltered position or indoors to avoid cold Winter winds and frost which are likely to damage the plant otherwise. Semi-evergreen in more mild regions.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.

Instructions

Top Tip

Propagate from cuttings in summer in case winter frosts damage the mother plant.

How to Water

Water abutilons regularly to protect against drought. Don’t allow the soil to become waterlogged, but don’t leave it to dry out for extended periods either.

How to Plant

Abutilons are sun lovers, so choose a bright, sheltered spot in moist well-draining soil. Plant out after all risk of first has passed, leaving 1.5m between plants. Abutilons are suitable for growing in pots and containers, or can be planted in the ground, against a wall or fence.
