In the UK we call them aubergines, in the US they call them eggplants, whatever you call them, they are delicious. Planting aubergine seeds is a bit of a waiting game as the vegetables have a longer than normal growing season. Aubergine seeds also aren't necessarily straightforward to grow in the UK due to climate differences to their native India. With that said, aubergines grow well in greenhouses and newer varieties have been developed to grow in UK gardens. The typical growth time for a good-sized aubergine will be most of the year, with a February planting resulting in a crop by October. Once you have the aubergines harvested, they are so tasty that months of work will be devoured in a matter of hours.
