Picture yourself standing at your kitchen window. A warm September afternoon, a gentle breeze caressing the leaves of the large Apple Limelight Tree at the end of your garden. The sunshine dances on the heavy, juicy apples that hang from the branches in abundance. You think back to just a few weeks ago to when the apples were smooth lime in colour and now glow golden in their new ripened state. Simply perfection.
The Malus domestica ‘Limelight’ tree is a hardy tree that grows best in full sun. In April in May it offers a display of pretty, white flowers scattered between the dark leaves and branches.
When the apples are ready to be picked, you may find a few that have a blushed pink hue, making these even sweeter, The flesh of the Malus domestica 'Limelight' apples are crisp, tasty and firm, making them the perfect snack on the go.
This tree is offered as a rootstock MM106, semi-dwarfing, which is tolerant of a range of soils including grassed orchards and poor soils. This is the most widely used rootstock. Plant with a spacing of 4.5m between the rows for best results. When left unpruned it will reach heights of 4-5m in a 10-year period. To guarantee cross-pollination, plant near another tree in the same flowering group. The ‘Granny Smith’ is a good partner.
