Ever wanted to grow your very own fruit tree but could not decide which would be best for you? The Malus domestica ‘Discovery’ has you covered. Like its common name, the ‘Discovery Apple Tree,’ discover a world of flavour, fragrance and beauty situated in that gorgeous sunny area of your garden.
The apples from the ‘Discovery Tree’ are almost entirely covered by a bright rouge colour. They are medium in size with the most outstanding strawberry sweet taste. Hold the fruit to your nose and be transported into a world of sweet aromas that will have your taste buds tingling in no time. During April in May the tree puts on a stunning show of ice-white, drop-shaped flowers. In August the fruits are ready for harvesting.
Best placed in a spot that has full sun, this tree is offered as a rootstock MM106, semi-dwarfing, which is tolerant of a range of soils including grassed orchards and poor soils. This is the most widely used rootstock. Plant with a spacing of 4.5m between the rows for best results. When left unpruned it will reach heights of 4-5m in a 10-year period. To guarantee pollination, plant in a site close to a tree from the same or similar flowering group. The ‘Arthur Turner’ is a good choice.
