Known as the definitive English cooking apple, the Apple Bramleys Seedling offers large fruits with a creamy flesh, packed full of juicy, mouthwatering flavour. It makes a delicious, smooth, light and fluffy purée and can be used in desserts, cakes, pies, crumbles and jams or can be eaten straight off the tree.
The tree has an open spreading habit with strong hardy branches that are covered in dark green leaves. Spring sees the appearance of pink flowers. The apples are yellow-green in colour with light broad red stripes, they hang as a masses of heavy fruits that can be cropped in mid October.
Apple Bramley Seedling is a triploid apple. It requires two different pollinating apple trees or one self fertile apple tree from the same group to be planted nearby. Plant in full sun, open sites.
The plant is offered as a rootstock MM106, semi-dwarfing, which is tolerant of a range of soils including grassed orchards and poor soils. This is the most widely used rootstock, but is unsuitable for small gardens. Plant with a spacing of 4.5m between the rows. When trained as a bush, the tree will reach a height of 3-4m and a spread of 4m. The plant will start fruiting after 3 to 4 years.
