  • GardenersDream 'Kilmarnock' Willow Tree is a well-known, vibrant ornamental tree. This plant will display beautiful waterfall-like branches with dark-green leaves and grey undersides, covered in golden catkins around Spring time. Renown for their hardy ‘lollipop’ single stem, the Willow tree is perfect to grow in flower borders, small gardens, hedging beds & patios.
  • Between a 10-20 year growing period, this lollipop tree can reach a maximum height and spread of around 200-250cm. Ideally plant in well-drained, moist soil that is deep will keep this hardy little treasure content. Position the tree full sun or situate next to a small body of water such as a stream or a little pond. They also grow well in deep pots on patios with a good watering regime.
  • The ‘Kilmarnock’ Willow Tree requires little maintenance due to their hardy and compact structure. To achieve the most colourful foliage, prune back the branch tips by around 10cm towards the later stage of flourishing season (July) to encourage fresh, variegated growth for the following year.
  • Pendula trees are valued all year round for their stunning display of toughness. Emerging in Spring with maturing shades of green, yellow and grey, before changing predominantly green with hints of cream over the Summer season. As Autumn hits, the tree will keep its strong green colours but will be overrun with warm red and orange colours. Then coming into the trees dormant stage over Winter, the warm colours will begin to fade away and begin the cycle all over again.

The 'Kilmarnock' Willow Tree grow furry yellow catkins in the Spring that are popular with the wildlife, particularly the bees. The leaves of the Kilmarnock Willow are ovate, dark green and have grey furry undersides that accommodate the branches throughout the year. In Winter, the tree looks incredible draped in snow or frost. Perfect to plant in borders, patios & small gardens.

The Kilmarnock Willow Tree was discovered by the side of the River Ayr in Scotland in the 1850's and was propagated by Thomas Lang of Kilmarnock hence its name. It also received the 'Award of Merit' in 1977.
