The Jostaberry (Ribes x nidigrolariais) is a thornless hybrid between a blackcurrant and a gooseberry. The upright, thornless stems will be laden with large, dark red, almost black, round berries between end of July and beginning of August. A unique tasting fruit which is full of vitamins and antioxidants.
Jostaberry bushes should be planted in rich, well drained, slightly acidic soil with plenty of organic matter. Plant in a sunny location and protected from strong winds. Water well, especially during the first year after planting. It can grow to and ultimate height and spread of 1.8 - 2 m. Pruning can be carried out after the fruit has been harvested or in the winter.
