Characteristics: Hardy, deciduous tree. The lance-shaped leaves of this variety bear a light green shade from Spring into Summer, before taking on a bright yellow colour in Autumn. The tree also produces small, silver-yellow catkins in early Spring.
Period of Interest: Small catkins appear in Spring. Light green foliage shortly follows, staying throughout Summer until the leaves turn yellow in Autumn.
Height and Spread: Ultimate height of 4m and spread of 3m.
Hardiness and Best: Fully hardy. Best placed in full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Fertile, moist and well-drained.
Japanese Fantail Willow is a deciduous tree that presents a bright display of colour, as well as delicate, silver-yellow catkins in early Spring. It will then produce lance-shaped foliage that shows a green colour in late Spring, turning bright yellow in time for Autumn. This variety grows to a larger size than others, making it a great addition to many areas of your garden, including the back of sunny borders.
This Willow prefers to be grown in fertile, moist and well-drained soil, meaning regular watering is necessary for adequate progression. It can be grown in full sunlight or partial shade. Its ultimate height and spread is 4m and 3m respectively.
